Prague Castle
The Prague Castle is the biggest compact castle in the whole world.
The castle is located on the hill Hradschin and was built during the
9th century. In its whole history the castle was subjected to various
modifications of various architects during various centuries. The
existance of so many centuries left its mark. In the centre of the
castle area rises the Veits Cathedral.

The main castle (hrad) was the protected domicile of the rulers.
The oldest document about the castle dates from the year 885.
The Prague Castle was also the arise of the Thirty Years' War. In 1618
the governors of the emperor threw Ferdinand II out of the window. This
incident is known as the "Defenestration of Prague" and happend in the
Ludvik room of the castle. It marked the start of a bloody war which
lasted for 30 years. The main reason of the defenestration and the war
was a religious conflict between the Catholics and the Protestants.
